Prof. Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nigeria’s first state-owned university, Ambrose Alli University, has enjoined matriculants who took the Oath at a well-attended ceremony at Ekpoma, that the University has zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social vices.
The acting vice-chancellor, who stated this while presiding over the matriculation and oath-taking ceremony of the 4,051 newly admitted students to the University, advised them “to be focused on the vision and mission of your studentship. Do not be led astray by bad friends; use social media with wisdom and shun all evil vices including cultism.
Do not de-market yourself or your University.” He congratulated the matriculants and advised them to “embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, to explore new horizons, and to strive for academic excellence in all their endeavours.” He further told the elated audience that “Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma is dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning” and that the University’s dedicated lecturers are experts in their respective fields and are passionate mentors who are committed to guiding and inspiring the new students along their academic path.
Prof Adagbonyin stated: “I urge you to engage actively in your studies, to seek knowledge beyond the confines of the classroom and to challenge yourselves to reach new heights of academic achievement. Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma prides itself on its rich cultural heritage and its commitment to fostering an inclusive and harmonious environment where every individual is valued and respected.
I encourage you to embrace diversity, to celebrate differences, and to contribute positively to the vibrant tapestry of our campus community.” The new 4,051 students who subscribed to the relevant Oath of Matriculation were drawn from 11 faculties in the University.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, prof Adagbonyi, warned the newly admitted students that by the Oath they had taken, they were bound to obey all the rules and regulations guiding them as students of the University and that a breach of the Oath has its consequences.
