Delta State Child Rights Amendment Bill, 2024 Scales Through Second Reading On The Floor Of The State House Of Assembly.

Delta State Child Rights Amendment Bill, 2024 was read the second time on Wednesday plenary in a motion greatly moved by the lead sponsor Hon. Marilyn Okowa Daramola member representing Ika North East constituency. Seconded by Hon. Emmanuel Amatere Sinebe member representing Patani State constituency.

Leading debate on the Amendment Bill which was enacted 16 years ago year 2008 by the lead sponsor Hon. Marilyn Okowa Daramola said the amendment seeks to replace the ministry of Education with the ministry of Women Affairs Community and Social Development. She also said that the amendment guarantees the freedom of movement of children in Delta State which is not harmful to them. It also prohibits no violence of any form to any child. Hon. Marilyn then urged other Lawmakers to lend their voices in support of the Amendment Bill to ensure its speedy passage.

Other Lawmakers unanimously lend their voices in support of the Amendment Bill.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi then referred the Bill to the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs/ Girl Child Entrepreneurship and Humanitarian Services to report back October 3, 2024.

The House also Screened and confirmed the secretaries nominees from the Ika South and Ughelli South who were initially stepped down on Tuesday 10th for improper documentation of their curriculum vitae CV at the committee of the whole House in a motion moved by the deputy majority leader Hon. Festus Okoh Chukwuyem member representing Ika South constituency, Seconded by deputy majority whip Hon. Emeke Osamuta member representing Ndokwa East constituency and Chaired by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Guwor Emomotimi.

After been thoroughly screened the deputy majority leader Hon. Festus Okoh Chukwuyem moved a motion for their confirmation.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Guwor then congratulated the nominees and encouraged them to work diligently and serve in their local government in their best capacity.

Earlier the Speaker informed the House of letter from Burutu local government Chairman seeking for clearance of its council secretary nominee.

The Speaker then charged the nominee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae CV to the office of the clerk before 16th September and appear for screening on 17th September, 2024.
