In a powerful demonstration of transnational philanthropy, the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Germany has officially invited the general public to the highly anticipated handover and commissioning of a new philanthropic project squarely aimed at transforming educational standards and fostering community development in Urhobo land.
This initiative, one of several impactful programmes spearheaded by the German chapter of the union, underscores a relentless commitment to touching lives and creating tangible change for the Urhobo nation.
According to a statement signed by the union’s National Public Relations Officer, Macjean Omuvwie, the project represents a strategic intervention in the region’s educational sector, an area long identified as a critical lever for sustainable development.
At the heart of the project lies a deeply personal motivation. The President of UPU Germany, Ugo Evans Eghivvie, who is an alumnus of Ajanesan Primary School in Ogharefe, recalls with vivid clarity the challenging conditions that currently plague the learning environment.
“Our children should not be forced to study in a place with no chairs or tables,” stated President Egbivwie, his voice echoing the concerns of many stakeholders. “Some of them even come to school without uniforms. This is not just unfair; it is a barrier to their future.”
He emphasised that the upcoming intervention is both timely and strategic. “This project is aimed at giving the right upbringing to our youth, who are the undisputed leaders of tomorrow. If we fail to provide a conducive environment today, we risk the quality of the leadership we will have tomorrow.”
The UPU Germany has therefore extended a warm invitation to the general public, including community leaders, educators, parents, and well-wishers of the Urhobo nation, to witness the commissioning ceremony. The event promises to be not just a handover of materials, but a celebration of the ‘Ubruhwe’ spirit (communal goodwill) that binds Urhobo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora.
“This is one among many of the union’s initiatives to make impactful contributions,” PR Officer Omuvwie added. “We thank our members in Germany for their sacrifices and encourage everyone to attend and see what unity in action looks like.”
