Professor Chidi Odinkalu, former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, does not have the powers to prosecute Naira abusers.
He stated that “Spraying of Naira does not fall within the EFCC Prosecutorial Jurisdiction” and he rebuked the anti-graft agency for arresting crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju popularly known as Bobrisky who was tried for alleged naira abuse, found guilty and jailed for six months.
Professor Chidi Odinkalu stated that the law that forms the EFCC, defines it to mean a body put in place to eradicate illegal money laundering by individuals or organized groups thereby violating existing legislation governing the economic activities of government and its administration.
