The member representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency Hon. Mathew Omonade was suspended at plenary today for a period of fourteen Legislative days for gross misconduct by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor following a motion raised on the floor of the House by the majority leader Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by the Chief Whip Hon. Perkins Umukoro and unanimously adopted by the House. #
The suspended lawmaker Hon. Mathew Omonade was alleged to have willfully and falsely perverted the proceedings of the House of Wednesday, May 8, 2024. According to the majority leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi the gross misconduct violates the standing order and rules of the House, hence the need for the suspension. Hon. Mathew Omonade was asked to handover to the management of the House all government properties in his possession including the official vehicle immediately and was asked to leave the hallowed chamber.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor then setup adhoc committee to investigate the alleged gross misconduct with the majority leader Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi as chairman. Other members of the committee are: the chief whip Hon. Perkins Umukoro, Deputy chief whip Hon. AlFred Martins, minority whip Hon. Alakpala Anthony Ebitonmo and the member representing Ika North East constituency Hon. Marilyn Okowa Daramola, the Deputy clerk Legislative affairs Mr DS Olorogun will serve as the clerk of the committee and report back in one week.
