The first chess tournament for the year in Edo State took place on the 3rd of February 2024 at the Edo Innovates, Benin City. Chess players gathered in full force this weekend as the highly-anticipated tournament proved to be a thrilling spectacle for both participants and spectators alike. The 30th edition of the Monthly Chess Sequence Attracted talented chess players like Ogirigbo Okiemute Roland, Iyoha Emmanuel, Idara Emmanuel Joy, Ajieh Ebenezer, Akinrogunde Clinton amongst others.
The tournament quickly became a battle-ground of strategic brilliance as competitors displayed astonishing depth of knowledge and remarkable foresight. The Chess Sequence 30 was a 7round FIDE Rated tournament and it featured 2 sections (Rated and Unrated). The tournament also saw young rising stars and relatively unknown players who managed to defeat several seasoned professionals with their innovative approach to the game.
Chess tournament also served as a platform for chess enthusiasts and aficionados to come together, fostering a sense of Unity and shared love for the game. Iyoha Emmanuel clenched the 1st position of the Opens Category and Medals and cash prizes were awarded to winners in all categories.
As the curtains closed in on the tournament, Players and spectators expressed their satisfaction as the event was a success. Chess Sequence 30, was organized by Life and Chess Club Benin.
